What is Project Lunky?
Project Lunky is a 3D horror action roguelite by Lixian (LixianGames)— the editor behind Markiplier's YouTube channel. You're teleported into a lab where everything wants to kill you. Collect coins, buy upgrades at the Warfstache Shop, find the key, and escape through the portal.
Born from the "Lunky" meme in the Markiplier Cinematic Universe — a stick figure character Mark created as a joking replacement for Lixian. The game is packed with MCU references: the Mospital™, Tiny Box Tim Easter eggs, In Space crystals, and a hidden secret code the community is still decoding.

2018 — Lixian Joins Markiplier
Luís "Lixian" Costa, a Portuguese animator and editor, joins Markiplier's channel as his primary video editor. Working remotely from Portugal, Lixian quickly becomes known for his distinctive editing style — snappy cuts, animated self-inserts, and Portuguese threatshidden in the footage. With Markiplier's channel at 20M+ subscribers, Lixian's work reaches millions of viewers daily.
2020 — "LIXIAN IS GONE. LUNKY IS HERE."
While Lixian is on vacation, Markiplier creates Lunky— a crude stick figure "replacement editor" made of two squares and straight lines. The bit goes viral. Fans love the absurdity. When Lixian returns, he "kills" Lunky in a dramatic animated sequence. But Lunky comes back — resurrected with white eyes and a stitched body. A meme is born, and Lixiplier fans won't let it die.
2021–2024 — Lixian Builds Games in Secret
Between editing Markiplier's videos — including the YouTube Original "In Space with Markiplier" — Lixian quietly develops games on the side. His first release, "Do It For Me", is a sidescroller horror platformer that hints at his talent for game design. Meanwhile, the Markiplier Cinematic Universe grows: Darkiplier, Wilford Warfstache, Tiny Box Tim, the Mospital™ — all building a lore universe that Lixian knows inside and out.
2025 — Project Lunky Drops
Lixian releases Project Lunky on itch.io — a full 3D horror roguelite that transforms the Lunky meme into a real game. It's packed with MCU references: the Warfstache Shop, Tiny Box Tim Easter eggs, In Space crystals, hidden codes, and even Damines Axe— a weapon referencing Darkiplier's origin. Markiplier plays it on camera, and the game goes viral overnight.
The Twist — The Editor Becomes the Boss
The video opens with Lixian threatening Markiplier in Portuguese: "Play my game or you're going to have problems." The power dynamic flips — the editor forces his boss to play his game. It's the ultimate payoff to years of Lixian "fighting back" through animated inserts. And the game itself? It traps you in a lab controlled by Evil Lixian. The meta-narrative is perfect: Lixian literally built a world where he is in control.
Project Lunky isn't just a game — it's the culmination of 7 years of Markiplier-Lixian lore, built by the one person who knows every frame of it.
